ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCTS: Bringing The Outside In

In an attempt to confront at least some of the not so natural environmental aspects the horse faces when living in our artificial world, THT will endeavor to develop a product line of practical and more natural concepts.

The Walkabout Trail

We started at the bottom. With a plethora of hoof, foot and leg issues faced by the horse, so many of which are seemingly rare for the horse in the wild, THT studied the horse movements and footing surfaces beneath the sturdy hooves of the Spanish Wild Mustangs in the Pryor Mountains and Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming and Montana. Continued field research of these and other bands of wild horses are paramount to all product development.

The horse, whose physical features are keenly designed for life on the move over variable surfaces and conditions, is fitted very well for life in the wild. However, hoof and leg issues are seemingly a constant dark cloud hovering over every horse in every stable, back yard, race track or arena. The reasons may well be and certainly are, a collaboration of things aiming squarely at the hoof. One of these is the surface the horse finds himself traversing for much of his life, especially in the formative years.

A field study of movement and obstacle negotiations, along with careful inspections of footprints left in the wide variety of surfaces in the wild, has lent itself to the design of the Walkabout Trail concept. (Read more in AVFTH, The Natural Herd Dynamic, in an artificial world.) The Walkabout Trail is the result of the findings from this field research, with the goal to re-create the surface types that best suit the needs of the horse who will never live life in the wild, but whose physical features were designed to do just that.

Two philosophies are in play here; the Convalescence Pathway, and the Obstacle Course.

These are indeed the working philosophies of THT, but in no way does THT pretend to supersede your veterinary practitioners? recommendations. The development of the Walkabout Trail is meant to aid in the overall welfare and health of your horse, and to assist your equine in having a more natural strength building format that his body was designed for.

THT both urges and welcomes input, assistance and advice at all times from either your practitioner or our veterinary consultant in order to achieve the most efficient and safest results. You can count on and look for continued product development that will benefit you and your horse, as we make the effort, to bring the outside, in.
